2000 900ie Fuel pump or wiring issue?

I have read quite a few threads on the topic but none apply to my early bike (that I could find anyway).  I crashed my Monster about 3 months ago.  Had to replace the fuel tank.  Installed the pump and filter, hooked up the fuel and drain hoses and the 4 pin connector.  Bike fired right up.  Ran great in the garage.  Last Saturday I wheeled her out and fired her up to take our first post-crash ride.  Bike fired up and was running fine and then just died.  Now the pump does not prime.  Everything else seems to be fine--bike cranks, low fuel warning light worked (no it was not out of gas, I'd just added two gallons after initial start up though come to think if it that light never went out even after I added the gas).

Is this a wiring issue that I can fix or a pump issue?

Good tests to determine what the problem is?

Thanks!

PS: Someone I know suggested mounting the fuel pump externally but I don't think there's room for that on the bike.  Interesting idea though.

At the connector to your fuel sender/ pump terminal m3 is power to the pump.  Got power there?  Good ground from terminal 2?  Pump or wire running through sender.

Thanks!  I will check.  Not sure which terminal is M3 and which is ground but I will take a look at the wiring diagram in the shop manual and Haynes that I have.
