hi,
I'm having some trouble with my S4 that's getting very hot in the summer some times.
I've been searching the net to install an oil cooler by using used parts.
Some question though.

I red that i should install an oil diverter piece that's located above the filter somewhere,is that so?
Can i see a pic of the part and it's  location on the engine?

Do i need too install a separate thermostat like FI an mocal one that allows the oil to go to the cooler when its getting to hot?

My S4 engine

A S4R setup that I saw here on the board to check if it was possible to do

Any advice and insight on this is much appreciated  [thumbsup]

You need a bypass spring... 799.2.077.2A Bypass spring.

It installs under the oil filter adapter.

There is no oil thermostat available. A company called Evoluzione used to offer one, but it reduced flow which is not desirable.

Are your cooling fans coming on?

The fans come on when the licht in the dash turns red.
But it feels like it's not enough...
It happens when in heavy traffic when not really making speed.

I know that Takegawa makes Thermostats for mini bike that are high quality an uses 4 fittings.

I'd get some information on flow before I added that thermostat.

The water cooling will still regulate the temperature without an oil thermostat.

Be aware that on an air/oil cooled Monster 900 the oil never reaches temp on a cold day.

We usually resort to covering the cooler.

Hot in traffic or while moving?  Oil coolers don't do much when you are not moving.  Also, how hot is hot?

Just to verify, this is an '01 S4, yes?

A step down in radiator thermostat temp setting? What temp does the oem thermostat kick in?

Yep, after reading your reply I scrolled down and saw that.

First, I would make sure the thermostat is working properly and the cooling system is bled.  Probably not your problem, but...  Two other options are a fan switch that closes at a lower temperature ( MotoWheels has one, not sure if it fits your bike) or a toggle switch so you can operate the fans manually.

Yes its an 01 S4.
Thanks for the other pointers so i will have to check these.

The coolant and oil have been changed last week this because the starter motor was gone.
But as its getting colder now i won't be able to check the cooling for next summer.

The intention was after starting this tread that i might install the cooler this winter to have no issues in the summer.

Anyway if other things come to mind please write them down ;)
