I've just acquired this '97 M900.  I intend to strip it down paint the engine black, add lots of carbon and red anodised goodie, I'm also going to add a S4RS style red stripe down the centre.

So my question: should I leave the wheel black or paint them the same red as the intended stripe?

The red stripe:

Wheels red.

Going to stripe the seat cowl too, yes?

Red anodised goodies fade.

Please paint those calipers black or strip them back to original gold or...something....anything.

YES

Red anodised goodies fade.

Oh crap..... I didn't know that! Will a coat of clear lacquer help reduced that?

Defiantly, the previous owner has done quite a few poor paint jobs all will be fixed up  Wink

Nope. Fades to pink varies with each brand with all of them being susceptible. Most experts attribute it to UV exposure but I have noticed that heat is also a contributing factor. I have SpeedyMoto belt covers with red inserts and even though the counter-shaft insert is pretty much protected from the sun, it is on its way to being pretty in pink.  bang head

I have tried some high tech acft coating UV protection applications and my red and blacks still faded. Any future anodized bits for me will be either gold or silver/natural. While gold also fades, it usually is not noticeable unless compared to a new part, and certainly not as unpleasant as pink.

Cheers, thank you for the input.  I have been thinking about maybe gold, maybe a black/red/gold combo!

At least you can see if you like it with the black wheels at first.  I have always prefered black or gold wheels personally. Pity the configurator doesn't have more options.

I have an Oberon Slave cylinder in Red/pink.  It is not all that old (maybe 8k) and I store my bike indoors.

Yes, I've ordered a reflective red pinstripe from fleaBay to see what it looks like.
