I have a M400 that the better half is going to learn to ride on, she has never ridden before so my question.  What would the good folk of DMF recommend as an ideal front and rear sprocket set up for a conservative learner rider?

My greatest fear in life is that when I die my better half will sell my Ducati's and tools for the price I told her I paid for them!

What is on it right now?

To get her used to the clutch opwration, I would stay OEM.. Then add a tooth or 2 at the rear....

when they come into the country they generally get 14/46.  even the really early ones with the shorter primary drive.  2001/02 manual says 15/46.  i went from 14/46 to 15/46 on one and it felt more suited to me and the owner.  that one had also had the cam timing done, and it did feel better even with an extra tooth on the front.

Hey guys, it's taken me awhile to get back to this one!

The current set up is 14/39 which give me a 2.78 ratio which I'm guessing would be a good set up for long range curising?

I have a new set of 15/46 I can put on which will give me a 3.07 ratio, which I, also guessing would be better for around town and a learner?

I'm still new to this so please forgive me ignorance!!!!! O, of course I'd be fitting a new chain if I go with the 15/46 set up! Cheers for any feedback, comments or suggestions  [thumbsup]

I think the lower gearing would be better. Killing/stalling would be less evident for take off. But if you ham fist the throttle it's more likely to come up on you. It could go either way.
