I suppose I could have emailed someone, but I thought it would be useful to have the answer enshrined in the forum anyway; can someone give me the dimensions and material (copper or aluminum) of the oil breather crush washer/gasket? I don't have an engine in my possession and I'm on the road anyway. Google turned up nothing.

In addition to ordering a lifetime supply of banjo bolt, oil filter/screen/breather gaskets from McMaster Carr I'd also like to add a proper spanner for the steering head bearing retainer nut on 01 < bikes so I won't hack my new one up with the old flathead screwdriver + mallet technique. I see several adjustable ones on the market...kind of a long shot but do any of you gear heads know of one that can "do it all" I.e the steering head nut, oil breather, and shock? That would be a cool and useful tool to have...

BTW so there's no confusion: the steering head nut I'm referring to is the one that looks like this:

for the steering head you probably should use a socket type peg spanner because you dont have room to swing a normal one.
like this...

for the shock I use something like this because its adjustable..

for the breather you probably wont be able to use one of them because there isn't enough room to get in there.
I made my own for this. Its nice and thin so you can get it around the side of the breather..
Easy enough to make if you have a bit flat steel plate and a  hack saw and file...

There will not be a 'do it all'.

McMaster-Carr has a variety of fixed spanner wrenches that will fit a range of sizes, like this:

They're a bit on the bulky side, I've got a couple for each of the standard applications, most have been ground down a good bit for improved access.

Thanks.

By any chance does the slotted socket for removing the cam pulleys also fit the ring nuts? Or would the ring nut spanner for the wider stem Ducati's also fit this older ring nut I posted? Would be a good excuse to buy the cam pulley tool set from Corsair.

I use cam pulley nut's with a hex.
Vee Two made them but I think you can still get em on ebay...

I bet even I could take a Dremel to an old socket and make one...if I had a couple tries, hehe. Would be a good way to finally get some use out of the USAE sockets I have collecting dust!

Cam pulley spanner nut socket fits only those.

Steering stem spanner nuts are much larger.

Check your local bicycle shop for similar tools for cranksets and head rings. I lost my old bicycle tool & used a small screwdriver & hammer on my Ducabike breather towards the back so any damage is not seen.

Those sockets for lock rings are actually a bit hard to come by. I scoured Mcmaster and came up short. And when the oddball shoulder and "special screws" Ducati uses come up it's always on European websites.  The U.S is absurdly behind the times...I wish we'd ditch NPT, SAE and all the other BS already.

That bicycle tool was a good tip, lots of useful multi-tools pop up with that search.  [thumbsup]
