I'm getting a set of MBP collets (probably a bit too late!!)
On the mbpducati.com website the pic for 2V collets shows that they have a square edge to fit into the square corner of the closing shim.

Problem is, the shims I use have a radius in the bottom edge to fit the ducati shims.
I see the new collets from MBP are made to fit the radius but it looks like they are for the later models with the 7 mm valve stems.
It does say on the site that they have made 'a new generation' collet, but are they for 8 mm stems?

They reason I'm installing these is because I droped a make the beast with two backsen valve!!  :'(
As some of you may know, I'm using the Vee Two 210 cams and as its been said on here before they are faily aggressive.
I think it was speedog that said that if you use these that you should use MBP collets! I shoul have listened!!   [bang]

Anyhow... for the rebuild, I'm thinking I may go for the 212 cams or the ST2 ones??
that would save me money on valve because I dont need longer ones and I wouldn't have to machine they pockets on the new piston.

So, I've had my eye on ebay but they look a bit scarce.. anyone got a set or know of any??    [thumbsup]

None of my closer shims, either 7mm or 8mm, have a square corner where the half ring sits.

The 8mm MBP collets I'm running in my M750 have a small flat area that mates with the flat bottom of the pocket in the shim, and a chamfer to clear the outer radiused area (where the OEM half rings sit).

I don't know of any 212 or ST2 cams for sale.

Was it an intake or an exhaust that dropped?

Did the head fall off or did the valve break at the groove?

I've ordered the MBP collets, hopefully they will be like you say...

It was the inlet on the horizontal, and the valve head broke off!
Head and piston is rooted but the barrel is ok, thankfully... maybe a light hone.

I have a spare head, but I'm thinking if I have to go down the path of getting the combustion chamber and exhaust port ceramic coated, I may as well stick on the twin spark heads that I have and get them both coated...   :-\

Hmmm, head broke off.

I'd give Brad a shout, see what he thinks.
He's had his hands on these motors for a lot longer than I, and VeeTwo is a bunch closer to both of you than I am.

I'd suspect more problems with the top of the valve and the rockers with those 210 cams, rather than the head falling off.
Buuuut..that's just suspicion.

veetwo dont really do much these days, but you promted me to ring the old boss Brook Henry. He's the guy that started VeeTwo and bought back all the old stock when it went pear shape when Sprintex took over.
He hasn't rung back, but I'll ring him again tomorrow. I cant remember if he had a set of 212's (I loaded the pallets of parts when he bought them) I should have grabed a set when I was there!   ;D
In my time there I dont remember any bad reports about the 210's otherwise I wouldn't have used them. .
My go to guy these day's for help is the ex mechanic from vee two he said they never had much drama with them but said it could definately be the problem.
I do ride the ol' girl pretty hard...

I have a 2000 900ie engine lying about that I could rob the cams outa, but I kinda wanted to rebuild it some day.
the monsta is way more important though...

do they need a spacer to fit?

They are compatible cams, but which cam end shim washers from each set of cams will fit best with the change of heads I dunno. You will have two sets to play with. I would check the size of the shims from each motor to see how they compare. I couldn't find a spec for end play, etc. I guess torqueing the pulley nut pulls it all across (as in loads it)? I havent pulled one out.
Someone will know.

thanks Koko.
It shouldn't be to hard to figure out if I've got the cams in my hot little hands...
Problem is the engine I have isn't an ie one.  :( (confirmirmed thanks to Speeddogs engine number thread)

So... I'm still on the hunt for some cams!   [roll]

well I found some cams! 900IE ones...
They were sitting on my shelf, just didnt know they were IE.   [roll]
But thanks to Brads notes I identified them!
Brook Henry also rang me back, he said that he dosen't have 212's but has 213's I could possibly go down that path as well.

Next step is a piston, or pistons.
I have Bucci ones in there now but having trouble getting them.
I found these..

and these

Anyone with experience with the FBF one's? they are a good price...

but I also need to know what the Bucci ones weigh because the crank was balanced around them and I cant find the weight.
I could just pull the old one off and weigh them but if anyone knows that would save me the effort....

If you get FBF, they were and may still be doing 25% off on Mondays! [thumbsup]
