i changed my oil yesterday and put in the amount that the manual says.. (2000 750) and i rode it around and it was fine last night... now after riding a bit today i noticed i was leaking a very small amount from the oil pressure sensor? the thing right next to the oil fill cap, and my oil light is on.

now i cant ever seem to see into the oil sight glass.. any tips for that? it always just looks black.\

Sounds like you might have over filled it?

If you put the amount (i.e the capacity) that is stated in the manual then there is a good chance you overfilled it.
I would drain some oil until the level in the sight glass is between the two marks on the case.

If that was the case wouldn't it look brown, new oil color, not black?

If you just see black, it's overfilled.  If you didn't change the filter, you probably put in too much.  Since you changed the oil yesterday, it shouldn't already be black.

But, the light shouldn't be on.  Have you had the right engine cover off this bike for any reason?  Sorry if you have another post about taking engine covers off, but there are too many names to keep track of.

Ah, looking down I see you are the one who pulled the engine covers.  You didn't put something back.  How many "extra" parts did you have when you were done?  Sounds like you left off an o-ring at the very least.

i didnt have any parts left over.. everything that came off went back on.

the sight glass has always just looked black... even before i changed the oil.

i did change the filter as well.

oil is leaking from the oil pressure sensor..... would this cause the light to come on?? or does this make it sound like i over filled it?

Yes, the pressure switch could be the light problem.  If it is leaking it must be replaced anyway.  If you put the quantity of oil stated in the manual in your bike you are overfull.  The quantity in the book is total capacity.  When you drain the oil some stays in the engine.

Black site glass?  Is it black when you drain the oil?  And it stays black when you put fresh oil in?  My guess is something stained it and it needs to be replaced.
