So I've got a new clutch pack to put in my 696 and was going to just dive into doing it myself after watching this video:

After looking at the service manual for the bike though,  it appears that the 696 clutch is laid out a bit different and it recommends using a special ducati tool?  Does anyone know if this is totally necessary?  As seen here:

Not totally necessary, but it makes the job easier/less frustrating.

I've heard you can substitute the special "tools" with threaded rods.

The tools will keep the clutch assembly in one piece during removal/insertion and also clamp the unit while you undo the big nut.  They no longer have the black plastic hand knobs - you tighten them with a socket.

I opted for the three special tools AND the billet basket holder.  These are specific to the unique APTC "slipper" clutch.  Normal Ducati clutch tools won't do any good here.

edit - here's a pic of the tools in action on my bike:  http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=24411.msg1068048#msg1068048

Thanks for the feedback.  Can you give me a rough idea what those tools are worth to buy?  I'll call Ducati tomorrow morning to find out anyway, but just curious if you're able to give me a ballpark beforehand.

Been way too long.  Best to lookup the p/n at a few of the part sites.  Special tools are rarely a bargain as single-use items!
