Fork upper length

In order to do a fork swap on old Edgar, I need to figure a few things out. Here's my problem. I have Carrozzerria V-Track wheels, with a 20mm front axle. So another front wheel is out of the question for me provided the bearings can be changed to ones of the proper size. The way it's looking, I'm going to have to switch over to a 25mm axle for decent adjustable forks.
From what I keep reading the old style 20mm axle adjustable forks are not so good.

I found some early 748/916 forks for a pretty good price that I can use my brake disc and caliper on, they're the old 40mm mount. But, how long are the upper tubes compared to the normal adjustable showa forks? If they're going to stick out above the top triple too far, that'll cause clearance issues with the suburban machinery bars I recently got.

Who here has done SBK forks that has Suburban Machinery bars ?

I just got done doing sbk swap on suburban bars... i can post pics up if needed.  What shots do you need in particular?  I still haven't gotten my steering head angle confirmed, but i am very close to stock IIRC and it's tight, but there is clearance... I have stock bar risers.

How long are the upper tubes ? And then the length above the top triple after it's set from bottom triple to axle center as stock. Pictures are a plus, thanks for the help.

here is a helpful spreadsheet that was floating around ducati.ms

I won't be able to take dimensions until tomorrow at the earliest.  In the meantime, here are a few pics that should help you from my setup.  These are 996 forks on a 2001 monster 900s ie.

When I took my clipons off, I had them farther above the triple than that, but that's not a fair comparison with those bars. That first picture is motivation enough for me. Now just to get the axle situation sorted. I know I could use my 20mm axle. Or at least Norm form TOB said he'd done it a few times. I'd trust his judgement. It would just suck to have to drop the axle out every time an adjustment is needed.

Thanx Baz.

I found this:

Gives a few numbers.

But this has me wondering...
Say you wanted to get rid of 20mm of the upper tube sticking out but you can't cut it off. I've heard of guys cutting a little off of the top of the inner tube to lower the front ends on drag bikes. Who's to say you can't do the same thing? I don't think 20mm would kill suspension travel if you're sprung and valved right from the get-go.
