Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums but figured this is the place to get some good info.  I own a 2000 m750 and only the vertical cylinder fires.  I checked the coil, the wire, and the plug and its not any one of those.  I get a spark out of the coil/wire when it's hooked up to the wires that fire the vertical cylinder, but when i hook the coil up to the wires that fire the horizontal cylinder, there's no spark.  I checked the continuity of the wires that drive the coils and both of them read the same, but for some reason when i hook the coil to the ones that fire the horizontal cylinder, there's no spark....  Any suggestions?

Sounds like an ignition unit is bad.
An Ignitech is cheaper than a Ducati unit:

Do you have an electric rev counter on it?
They take signal fr one of the units and could have a bad connection,
causing the ign unit not to work.

Nope, i don't have an electronic rev counter hooked up.  I think you're right with the ignition, they are the 2 black boxes that are by the coils right?  I was trying to figure out what they were.

greenmonster

Yes, the black boxes.
Switch them & test, then you`ll know f sure.

just did that, its not the prob... both black boxes make the vertical cylinder coil spark, but still not the horizontal... is there any major component before those that could go out, or do u think it might just be the wiring harness?

More than likely an ignition pick up.  They should read 95 - 105 ohms.

I'll update this later at a convenient time Thank you for tuning in.....

If not ign box, +1 on pickups.
Before that, take a very close look at wiring into ign boxes.
Wires thin & fragile.

thx howie, i just followed the wires that run from the pickup to the black boxes and tested them.  sure enough the ones that supply the side that fires the vertical cylinder have bout 105 ohm and the ones that supply the non firing cylinder read about the same as if i were to put them on a tree.  now to find some pickups...

Hey everyone! Exact same problem here. I verified that the ignition pickup was faulty and ordered a new pair from Electrex.

Unfortunately I managed to lose the piece of paper detailing the wiring... Has anyone installed these? Can anyone tell me which wire should be spliced with which brown to red and black or white or yellow, etc.

Thanks so much. I emailed them for an electronic copy, but sometimes the forums are quicker and I'm getting antsy with my bike still sitting!

Thanks again

Electrex sent me a new copy. For the future here's the wiring:

Right pickup:
White to white,
Red to brown.

Left pickup:
Black to white,
Yellow to brown.
