S4RS, 13k miles.  checked my clutch today and the plates look ok. the 12T prongs are a little beat up, steels are a tad rusty in places, and the basket look like it has the standard normal wear fro the plates beating them selves to death on it.

is the 48 tooth basket and discs worth the upgrade?  i don't do any crazy riding , mostly trips around LA on the highways.  i don't need a racing clutch or anything THAT fancy.

48 tooth basket and discs,
or stock stuff.

thoughts?

There were some great deals going from sponsor Motowheels for EVR 48 tooth basket and plate kits. If you aren't barrelling into corners then you wont need a slipper clutch. I have a personal liking for the Nichols basket from sponsor California Cycle Works. It's a 12 tooth type, but has very close tolerances for a good, quiet fit and smooth operation.
Some like the Barnett baskets and some like the Barnett dry plates while others like OEM plates.

if it works fine it may just need a clean up, giving you time to save for a clutch kit.

ya the noise never bothers me. i really like the "hey man, whats wrong with your bike" sound.  [beer]

i heard there was a longevity reason to go with the 48 tooth set up. but if its just sound related, i will stick with the 12.

sponsors here i come! (when i get some cash)

Maybe those who run the 48 tooth style basket might chime in.

Dont forget all the other sponsors. Sounds like you have time to search widely for the right combination of parts to suit your needs. I run a combination of parts to get the effect I want. The dry clutch is quite tunable.

took the bike out today, with cleaned up plates, it was much more "grabby". quite nice.   BUT, on the way home on the coast road here, she started bucking and jumping at a light with the clutch in.... turns out the stock slave decided, "na, I'm done"  and leaks at the bottom of the large "multi pointed" socket head end cap...  made for a fun ride home. clutch would work fast enough to get it in to neutral at stops, but coming off the line was a little jumpy.    ordered up an Oberon and some fluid from moto.

SO, once i get that solved i can start saving up for the rest of the stuff.

i think the slave was mad because i was looking at replacements online last night.....

if you have a 48 tooth, chime on in! how do you like it?

I've swapped to an EVR 48 t slipper clutch about 6 months ago. I'm no motogp rider, but you can feel it working. Like a small click through the clutch lever. No problems so far.
One thing is when fitting, ( which was straightforward), my holding tool needed a quick fettle with a metal file, as it was a slightly tight fit due to the shape of the ends of the teeth.
