Can I Reuse This Oil?

Adding a slipper clutch to my Sport 1000S in the process I drained the oil in to a clean oil pan. Last oil change was at 7530miles and the bike currently has 9316 miles so not even 2K miles on this oil. I looks dark green in the pan so it's not that dirty from what I can tell. Can I cover this pan with saran wrap to prevent dust or particles landing in there and then put this oil back in the bike after my clutch swap? I wasnt going to drain the oil for this clutch swap but I felt more comfortable doing the job on a rear stand then on the kick stand (for fear of a tip over). I havent removed the oil filter and I would use a new crush washer for the oil drain plug. What do you think can I get another 2K miles out of this oil and filter or should I just put new oil and new filter on?

i have done that a few times. if the oil is contained in a clean container and covered , it should be fine. Honestly, imagine sucking in air and your air filter isnt cleaning it and then you combust it and throw carbon shoot through the rings...

Its probably not the worst thing in the world and if you wanted to be anal, you could probably strain it and throw it back in.

Back in the day, I remember someone straining oil through a T-shirt in a big funnel.

Run it through a paint strainer when you're pouring it back into the motor.

Better idea. ;D

Well, my shop-mate is a painter, so paint strainers aren't too hard to find.  [laugh]

Truth be told, a T-shirt wouldn't be bad at all.
It's going to get pumped through the filter anyway, so there you go.

This is not rocket surgery.  ;D
