There was always some rust on the chain and front sprocket
but now the chain seems to be getting worse despite my attempts at cleaning it
I am at around 16k miles
Leaning towards just getting a new chain but I wanted see what others have to say

From the photo the rust looks like what happens when the pins start wearing and the O rings are shot.  As ducpainter stated, it is time.

There should never be rust on the chain or sprockets on your bike!

Tight spots everywhere in that pic. Time for a new set.

thank you all for your input

I appreciate you all for taking the time to read and answer my question

If you were curious, i recently replaced the chain and sprockets

Again, thanks for your input

did you go stock fro sprocket size/ratios? and oem, or aftermarket? I like supersprox myself, light, gold, and a good price for the whole kit!

I was content with how it rode before, didnt think i needed to change the teeth

Alas, i am a college student and didnt want to spend too much money on this
I just went for the stock steel front and rear sprocket size/ratio by JT with a DID chain for just under $200
