Immobilizer advice
«

Greetings from a (finally) new Ducati owner. I bought a 03 Monster 620 with 11,000 miles on it for a very good price. Unfortunately it has the following issue. Every time for me to start it, I have to go through the immobilizer disarming process of watching the lights and twisting the throttle. Once started everything is great. If I turn off the engine kill switch, I am able to start it back up. But once the key is turned off, I have to go through the whole process again. Another weird thing that may be in play is, after turning off the key sometimes a turn signal will randomly start flashing.
I have searched a lot of the this site and read a lot of different advice on these immobilizer issues, but the issue still seems like a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Does anyone know where I should start to fix this or what I need so I have a bike I can easily start and ride off? Many thanks. Oh, and I have 2 black keys and a red.

First thing I would do is have the ECU flashed to kill the immobilizer, and, if it wasn't already done, a Ducati Performance map. The map will require an open air box. Check with your local board for a shop that does this or contact our sponsor Moto Wheels.

(directed at the collective) What's the deal with this?
Mine does this, too. It sat for a couple of years all disconnected, now re-connected with an engine out of a different bike (SS) and sometimes the right turn signal will flash for a number of times after turning off the key. The number of flashes varies.
I also have an ST tank with ST fuel flange and level sensor (that doesn't speak the right language for the ECU to kick on the fuel light).
The oil temp gauge on this replacement engine is possibly inop also (need to pull it and check, just haven't yet as it runs fine).

The turn signal blinking phenomenon has afflicted a few on the board. I don't know if anyone has figured out the cause, but my guess is this is probably something within the instrument cluster itself. Sign of future cluster death? Dunno, but if it is, another reason to kill the immobilizer.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up taking it down to a Ducati service center. They did some diagnostics and determined that the immobilizer and turn signal issues were because dash was bad and needed to be replaced. They said the cost of the part was $850 and with labor the repair would be $1,100. Does this sound reasonable to you guys?

The dash price sounds right, but the labor sounds kinda high to me.

$1100 comes to $850 for dash and $250 for labour . . . or did I misread "and WITH LABOUR THE REAPIR WOULD BE $1100.00"?

I'm going to try to fix it myself, maybe find a used dash on Ebay or repair it somehow. Looks like I'll be counting flashing lights and twisting the throttle for a while longer
