I'm checking the valve clearance on my bike. It's at 9,000 miles.
I found all this crap under the exhaust valve cover. Oil sludge? Is this indicative of any sort of problem?

FYI
Top cylinder exhaust unloaded measurement was scraping the feeler at 0.005"
Top cylinder exhaust loaded measurement was scraping the feeler at 0.010"

+1 to the paint blistering off.  I just leave it as is.

BTW, that means your valve clearances are 0.005" opener and 0.005" closer.  Or, just about perfect!  I'd definitely leave those as is.

Like many others, my M695 had the melted and blistered paint on the outside of the heads near the exhaust ports.  I was able to easily - and carefully - remove it with ordinary paint remover.  But why did they paint the inner surfaces - is this just incidental overspray?
