I have a 2011 1100evo 46k miles where the rear brake when the ABS engages, basically "free wheels" - i.e. zero stopping from the rear.
Has anybody had this problem and solved it?

Also, I have turned off the traction control as when I ride in the up a hill rain the motor just 'stutters' (any setting 1-4) to the point of being unrideable.

I have addressed both of these 'problems' with the dealer and they pretty much tell me 'it's not a problem.'

As I have been riding this bike for 5 years with these problems so I guess I can live with it but I want to disable the rear ABS without messing with the front (i.e. I don't want to turn it off completely).

Thanks for any help

I have an 1100 evo as well and have had similar issues with the rear brake. Part of the problem is poor design. The brake caliper is upside down so you have to take it off the rotor flip it upside down and bleed it. The air naturally gets and stays because of the orientation. Make sure you put a plate between the brake pads so they dont bind together.

Also another deisgn issue with the rear brake is that the abs controller is the high point of the system. The brake cable physically travels up to the air box and comes back down to the rear caliper. This leads to trapped air at the ABS unit. I noticed that if you buy a banjo bolt with a bleed nipple and install it on the abs unit (instead of the plain bolt) it just barely fits below bottom of the gas tank and the abs unit.

This will allow for a full system bleed.

W/ regards to the ABS unit activation, it may be a sensor alignment issue. Check the distance between the abs sensor and the abs ring on. Make sure its within tolerance.

Thank you for the information. I am not nearly mechanically adept enough to understand all of what you are saying but I will relay your comments to the dealer when I am in next.
