95 M900 Airbox mod (seperate battery and airbox)

I am wanting easier access to my carbs.  With a much smaller replacement battery, I am planning to build a smaller battery box and a corresponding attach point for coils and igniters (stainless or alum.). 

Ultimately a separate battery box and separate air box.  In theory.........??: I should be able to pull of my open air box
leaving the battery/coils/igniters in place.

Has anyone had any success with the before mentioned?
