Finally in the process of rebuilding and ran into a few questions...

I have a '99 ST2, but can only find a parts diagram for a '00. It shows an o-ring between the pushrod pin and the pressure plate bearing. When I disassembled mine, I found no o-ring there. I'm pretty sure the PO never touched it, so I'm wondering what the story is there? LT's parts diag doesn't show the o-ring, so I'm not sure...

I also read it's possible to replace the hub with a lighter aluminum version from a later model. The current drum is aluminum, so I'm wondering if the later plate/drum combo is also aluminum (current is steel). Or am I totally off-base here?

Thanks much.

The later pressure plate centre "button" had an o-ring. Drum is a steel/alloy combo with cush drive rubbers. It is pretty standard up until the 1100/Evo and 1098/1198 motors with more plates needing a slightly taller drum to carry them. Monsterparts has alloy drums and both Monsterparts and Motowheels have alloy baskets, plates, springs and keepers. I dropped over 4 pounds off my 900 Monster's clutch with carefully selected aftermarket parts.

Even though the diagram has the o-ring postitioned as if it's going around the button, and touching the bearing ID, I've never seen one that way.

There's an o-ring *inside* the button, touches the pushrod.

Yep. A recess in the button.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the info. I won't sweat the o-ring. I can see one inside the pushrod pin, so looks like I'm good to go.

I already have a DP basket (1.45 pounds lighter than the stock steel) and aluminum plates to go with. Just trying to figure out what the rumored 'lighter' drum/hub is. I'm guessing it must be the race-style hub DT sells: http://desmotimes.com/product11.htm

Everything's back together and seems functional. Raining and 55F today, so only got up to 3rd for a couple times around the block.

Off the bat I noticed that it feels more like a slipper clutch. Old/stock setup would lock up the rear wheel on sloppy downshifts and I'd slam into the tank. New setup is far more forgiving.

I'm curious if anyone else has experience the same going from stock steel setup to aluminum?

For the record, the swap from steel to aluminum basket was a 1.45 pound reduction and steel to aluminum plates was just a hair over 1 pound. Will be interesting to see what longevity looks like.
