Different rear brake switch

Might have made a mistake in ordering a brake switch. Mine is a 53940031B, which seems to carry across a wide range of monsters from the late 90's til mid '00s. The part I ordered was 53840031A, which site says fits all Diavel, Multistrada, Scrambler, 1199, 1299, 851, 899 and Supersport. From the parts diagram it looks like the difference is in the length. Anyone know whether I'm hosed and need to cancel order or I just need to bundle some length to make fit?

On my 97 M900, I just looked at mine and there is more than enough length on it. It connects to another plug that comes off the wires routed to the kickstand side. I've use zip ties to tidy it up. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't rely on the appearance of the parts diagram for any sort of length information.

Well the 53840031A is the same as the 1B except maybe an inch longer for any future reference. Interestingly enough, when fitting it up to make sure it worked, I noticed an identical connector in the same area leading to the main harness with nothing connected. Any ideas what's what with that (00 M750?)

Fuel level sensor is my first guess.

I'm betting you're right Dog. That idiot light hasn't work in 7 or 8 years, I've just used the odometer. It lit up the other day. Now that I think of it guess which one was hooked up to the brake switch?

They've used that trick again; on 848, 1098, 1198 you can swap plugs between the right side fan and the keyswitch antenna.
It's not a very good combo.

Sounds like you're better off than you were before, so it's good, yes?

Absolutely better. The old brake switch plunger had lost the better part of it's spring back.

The process of getting the rear set and switch through something other than a dealer was frustrating, but it's an old bike and I'm an old guy, so crotchety is something I'm learning to embrace slowly.
