While I have searched this in a few threads, I don't seem to find one that has my issue. Most of peoples bikes actually crank but don't start...what my bike does is go through it's starting screen, I press the start button and it just spins away (I'm guessing it's the stator spinning?) and screen resets and goes blank back to start up. It does this twice and then finally on my third attempt to start the bike it will actually crank and fire up. This is getting frustrating/embarrassing to say the least...any ideas of what this could be?

Probably the starter sprag clutch.  Go here  http://www.ducatiusa.com/services/maintenance/index.do  spare parts catalogue for your bike, p.34 part 7

Thanks I'll look into this as in researching this more with the info above it appears this is what it'll be. Doesn't anyone know if something like this would be covered under warranty? I purchased the bike from dealership with extended warranty and bike only had about 7k miles.

To confirm the starter spins free but doesn't turn the motor?
If your warranty is current I would check the fine print and take it to the dealer for sure. A sprag failure is a significant mechanical issue.

That is correct, spins the starter but not the motor as you don't hear any compression or motor trying to turn. Yes warranty is current and I'll check fine print later today and might have to take bike in for service. Hopefully it's covered!!
