Having the forks done on a 2001 Monster 900 with non adjustable Showas.  Will I be needing the damper rod holding plate, or the holding tool?  We already have a spring compressor.

Thanks,
Ben

Anybody have any experience with this particular tool?   Just want to find out how necessary some/all of them are.  I do have a spring compressor already.

DOH!  I archived you and forgot.  Could you get away with not having it?  Maybe.  How about this one at a reasonable price   https://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0117

Exactly what are you going to do?

If you have the spring compressor tool, you can do most jobs on this fork, assuming they are the same as on my 2003 M800 (non-adjustable Marzochi).

You do not need the cartrige tool to get the cartridge out; it's held with the hex head bolt at the bottom of the fork. The only reason to take the cartrige out is it makes it easier to thoroughly clen the forks out; you can not do anything to the cartridge itself.

OK, then I have never worked on them. I assume thy are pretty similiar (as in "basic"), but I don't know the details.

brecchi, I guess by "doing the forks" you mean seals and fluid change?  I don't have any experience with the Showas, but if they're like the non-adjustable Marzocchis I took out of my M695 years ago I don't remember needing any special tools to disassemble/reassemble.  Now, I DID need basic fork tools to subsequently install the adjustable Matris cartridges and the associated straight-rate springs due to the much stronger preload.  Let us know how it goes for you.

Howie, thanks as usual, and to everyone else as well.   I'll take all of this advice into account and put up a post on the results when its all done.
