AFAIK there are diferences between -'97 and '98+

Maybe -'97 were the three piece design and '98+ were two piece covers....

Would the available carbon covers fit both model year groups?

AFAIK

Belt cover Head/cylinder/block interface is the same across all 900 2-valve air-coolers.
1-piece OEM 900 covers are exclusive to '02.

Non-Pantah small block motors, same interface 'til 696, so up to '08 or so.
1-piece seems to start in '02 as well.

Jeff's Carbon World are for '98 - '02. I have asked if they fit earlier models despite not being three pieces.

Other more ebay generic vendors list them for '91 - '05  Roll Eyes
