Hey guys, I'm in Tellico Plains, TN(near the dragon) and the fork return spring I just replaced snapped. The old one lasted 30k miles and this one only lasted a thousand miles. So I need another or a cross reference of another spring from a different manufacturer.
Does anyone know of a different spring to use? OEM numbers are: 79914821A
Also, anyone know how or why this could have happen so quickly a second time? Something must be worn out or making this thing snap prematurely.

Thanks for any help

I don't know of a different replacement.

Have you found anything yet?

AFAIK, as DP said, no alternate.

79912961A Fork return spring is the part I'm showing
799.1.025.1A  and 79914821A show NLA
Confirm with your OEM parts supplier

I've not been able to detect any particular influence on life.
They just break whenever their number comes up.

Too funny - when I google that pn all my pics show up.

Ensure the adjustment doesn't allow contact with the gear.  Look for evidence of that on the broken part.  Maybe just my OCD, but don't tweak it too much if you're doing an in situ replacement vs. having everything on the bench and disassembled.

Most likely just bad luck as already mentioned.  Probably annealed in batches and a minority aren't properly cooled.  Same with gun parts.

I have a few spares, but I'm far away.

*edit* Also see 2009 Ducati "Service Bulletin SVC-09-021" for notes and correct spring orientation.

thanks guys for the responses, I have to check my profile because I'm not receiving alerts to my threads.
BK, I think it was your thread that I read to get the part numbers and tech, thanks.

I ordered a bunch of parts, the shims and recommended plates gaskets and springs. I think the quick failure was my fault, because all i did was replace the spring when I installed the lightened flywheel. I noticed then, that the spring would get very close to the timing gear behind the flywheel/starter gear, but did nothing about it.... The original spring lasted around 30kmiles, so I just assumed it had worn out haha Italian! Well, I think the rest of the mechanism had also worn out, therefore creating more fatigue on the new spring. Not to mention going on spirited rides in the NC mountains for hours, yippee. Luckily I was closer to our cabin in Tennessee when it let go and had a buddy scoop me.
