916 Engine - Monster V’s Superbike
«

G’day all,
What are the differences between the 916 engine found in the Monster S4 and the original Superbike?
The most noticeable visible one is no oil cooler!
Cheers

Original '94 916 SBK motor?
Single phase charging system, not 3-phase
Cases are machined narrower and for only the pivot shaft, bearings are in the swingarm
wide ratio transmission, not close ratio
Crankshaft is to suit the single phase charging
Does not have the low-exhaust-cam heads
Early style oil pickup screen, not internal under the plug-cover
Oil pump does not have the relief valve
Relief valve is in the cases
Primary gears are 2:1, not 1.84:1
Coolant fittings are different
Longer duration intake cams
Shift drum/neutral switch is mechanical switch, not a grounding 'commutator' setup
Has an o-ring on the vertical cylinder oil feed, so it doesn't get the base gasket leak
Probably another half-dozen things
