When you go out for a ride do you let it idle for five minutes before going?  Do you start reving the snot out of your bike as soon as it starts? Apparently neither is the right way.  See what Cycle News says is the right way to warm up your motorcycle?

Yep. Minimal time on choke, minute or two warming up depending on the season and slowly moving through the estate until it's running right.
