Wheel swapping questions
«
on:

Hey all. Been a bit since I have been on here and have a quick question. I am looking to swap out my 1999 M900 three spoke wheels with another style. I dig the 5 spoke look but was wondering if mine would be able to change out the 3 spoke with no mods. They do not have to be Ducati wheels because I remember reading somewhere that kawi or suzuki 5 spokes would work. My 900 has the two discs in front too. Hit me up with any suggestions. Thanks in advance. D

Hope this helps. The search function is an archive rich in information.
Front and rear axel diameter changes have an impact for sure.

Might need to adjust the caliper carrier on the rear too. Front wheel might be a straight-up swap

5 spoke rear wheel from a 900SSie or 1000SSie will go straight in.
Your 1999 model should have a solid 20mm front axle, and there isn't a 5 spoke front wheel that came with the 20mm axle. The 20mm bearings - should be 6204? - are 14mm wide, whereas the 25mm 6005 bearings are 12mm wide. You could have the wheel machined 2mm deeper each side to fit the 20mm bearings, and I'm sure the 20mm speedo drive will fit just fine. That would be by far the most suitable way to mount the 5 spoke front wheel.
Or replace the forks with later 25mm axle forks, which will also require 65mm spacing front brake calipers.
Lots of GSXR use the same 50/54mm fork diameters too, so you can get an appropriate complete wheel/fork/brake combo and slide it into your triple clamps.
