Any body know much about carbon fibre ?

Hey guys and girls,
I just bought carbon fibre solo seat off Ebay, problem being that the carbon looks quite dull in appearance, does anyone know if you can wet sand the carbon back and give it a clear coat to make it shiny and new again ? and if any one know a good spray shop in melbourne that would be great too !!
thanks Marco
look forward to hearing some wise words

Brad at Bikecraft down in Mentone re-clear coated my side panels and they are magnificent now.
It sounds as though anything is possible, as long as your wallet is fat enough!

Wouldn't trust any of it that isn't of German manufacture these days....buy yourself a Cedea produced piece (from Carbonworld or a distributor) and you'll see some nice stuff.

the weave in the carbon and the fact that it's mostly there as a weight saving measure, not bling! (yeah right!!!! LOL) mean that when you spray it you will often get lots of pin holes in the clear, and the only way (i'm told) to get rid of them is to sand and re-clear, sand and re-clear etc.etc using a heavy/wet application.
the good stuff used to come from the czech republic, but i think spider is right, the krauts are about the only ones making decent stuff these days.

exactly Paul - about getting rid of the pin holes - Brad can get a piece of carbon to 80% level quickly, but if you want to get it to 90% it's twice the price and to get it to 100% is 4 times the price - because it reflects the labour required.
Don't take your Termignoni in to get clearcoated - they are at about a 50% level! more holes than swiss cheese - Cedea actual make replacement sleeves for exhausts for guys that want really nice looking carbon on there, I personally don't mind the rough finish.

$60 or $65 I believe, really good improvement - one side was at 80% but the other side (right hand side for what it's worth) was dull and faded - once the German stuff started going on it looked really poor. He got both up to about 90% - better than showroom that's for sure - and said he could get rid of the few imperfections in the clearcoat but the cost would double.
