Hey all, I just found out where you're hiding! :)  I haven't made it to Rhodeside due to softball commitments, but you'll see me once the season is over.

I just saw this on CL: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/776363921.html

Looking for comments/advice....does this belong to anyone on the forum?  Appears to be stock.  It has 1300 miles on it, but the ECU says 700 because he had to have it replaced due to a lost red key.

Looks nice. Is there any way to verify the mileage or that the ecu was replaced?

Price is probably too high for what appears to be a 100% stock bike.

Also, if it has not already had it done - It needs new cam belt before it should be ridden much at all.  The belts are a 2 year or 12k mile replacement item.  So they are over due.  Factor that into the price and it's now more like a $7200 bike.

There will *have* to be papers for the ECU swap.  Parts list, bill of sale etc... also it has to be noted on the title if it's transferred (aka sold)  that the millage on the Odometer is not the actual milage of the vehicle   If they don't have any paperwork for the guage and ECU swappage, I'd wonder a bit.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

I'd pull a Carfax report if the person doesn't have paperwork for the ECU swap.  If it's a hot bike, the  [leo] can just take it and you'd be SOL.   :'(

Thanks.  I thought the price was a bit high as well, and I'm gathering sales data as much as I can.  Good to know about the cam belt.  Is there anything else that I'm going to have to do just because of age?  Battery?  Fluids?

I'll definitely ask about the paperwork for the ECU swap.  It was apparently done at the dealership.

Oil hopefully was changed recently.  Clutch and brakes will need a bleed if they weren't done in the last year.  If it hasn't been run a whole lot lately, it wouldn't hurt to run some Seafoam through it to get any junk cleared out of there.  Your neighbors will think you bought a two smoker... if they know what one is.  [laugh]

Similar thoughts - it'll need new belts.  Really need them...  The S2R, would need them soon, this bike needs them now!  It's a 4V, so maintenance costs are going to be higher.  Twice the valves, and those heads are cramped which makes for slow work.

Also - do some research about flaking chrome on the rockers.  There were some issues with the 4v bikes around that time where the plating on the rockers would flake off, which meant they had to come out... I don't recall the details, so look it up.  It might not be an issue for this years...

If the tires are original... they should be replaced.  Most manufacturers say bike tires aught to go at 5 years, regardless of mileage.

Other factors to consider:
Dry clutch vs wet... the S2R has the same clutch as your 620.  The wet ATP Clutch offers a lighter pull at the lever and some slipper capability.  The Dry clutch in the S4 is easier to service, has the sound, but will have a heftier lever pull, and NO slipper ability.

On the plus side:
4v puts down more power  [evil]
It has more suspension adjustment
Better front brakes
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

All, thanks, you've given me a lot to think about.  In fact, I may just pass on both of these until I find exactly what I want! LOL
