Same ole DesmoDevil, in a more gentle package

« on: August 28, 2008, 09:10:05 AM »

Hey, so I got a couple of PMs for pics on this place I am going to this weekend.  Here are the pics from 2006

A nice hiker took a pic of the three of us:

Everyone carries their own gear:

The approach as I found the lake while descending from Mt Harvard:

The view from the lake:

Camp:

Collegiate valley view

So do you know how hard it is to climb a ridge and have two dogs sit and stay while you hit a timer and run back up?!

Sadly, a few hours after that was taken, my black dog Jack died.   She came into the tent drooling and collapsed.  Given I was 6 miles from the car, there was nothing I could do.  "Um Dr Vet, can you come to the following coordinates?" just didnt work.   Guess it could be said that she died happy and in one of the most incredible spots I have seen!!  She was chasing squirrels right up to the end!

Normally I am  pretty strict 'Leave NO Trace ' kinda outdoorsman...but I left her water bowl and pack so I could find the spot.  Anyway, I buried her in an amazing place:

I carved into the tree: "Get the squirrel"

Amazing pictures.  Thank you for sharing them with us.  But I am heartbroke about your dog.  I can't imagine how you must of felt.  I am glad you were able to leave her in such a beautiful place.
