Isn't this thing supposed to kill us all when it is first started ?!?

How do they figure that, surely the egg heads would have calculated that sort of shit out, or am I to trusting of the scientific community?

Im a good dancer........when im drunk.....i think.....

Funny how that works.

I made the mistake of watching video of myself dancing at a party a few years back.

Now I just stand in the corner and pretend I have a bum knee.

There's a fear that it might produce a blackhole and.......well that wouldn't be good for us.  :P

actually, there's a fear that the black hole it's going to create will propogate. the more it sucks in, the bigger it gets.

the thing was created to study black holes. the counter argument to this is that the colliding of particles which they are using to do this happens in nature and those holes don't get any bigger.

then again, maybe that's what's going on at the bermuda triangle...black holes open up and suck in planes and boats then dissapear into another dimension... :o

;D

not quite.

The thing is being made to try to prove the Higgs Boson and prove the Standard Model of Particle Physics.

We'll know in about 7 days anyways, first run is scheduled to begin on Sept 10

I also remember reading something about strangelet (and resulting quark stars, which will spew out gamma rays) and monpoles (which are unlike stripper poles) causing the world to implode or something..

I thought I read any black holes it produces will be moving too fast and will leave the earth before doing any damage.

I always find this stuff interesting, even thought I don't really understand any of it. I do know, one day I will have my matter-antimatter powered monster.

Nah. The Bermuda triangle is related to huge pockets of methane bubbling out of the sea...

That is a funny video. They talked about it on NPR the other day. The collider sounds neat.  [thumbsup]

They should fire it up after the Indy race, you know, just in case.
