I was lucky enough to see them on that tour (although recollection of the show is a bit hazy).  I also saw them in '88.  Amazing live.  Too bad it is unlikely to see that again. 

Nick's latest touring group might be interesting, though.

True, some of their studio tracks included bass.  Not sure what they are up to now.  Their website is pretty quiet.

I happened to see them live in April 2017 as they were the headliner for a show in Denver at a tiny place where I went to see People's Blues of Richmond.

I wish I had known about them earlier.  I could have caught this eTown taping in Boulder a few months prior (https://www.etown.org/):
