On TOB, we had a thread where you could post what ever song, artist, album you are currently listening to. Good way to broaden your horizons.

Me, currently listening to Thriving Ivory, Angels on the Moon...

Pink Floyd - When the Tigers Broke Free

It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black 'forty four.
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn.
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back
The enemy tanks for a while.
And the Anzio bridgehead
Was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives.

And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, I recall,
In the form of a scroll,
With gold leaf and all.
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy from me.

An ardent second of the three above, with The Pogues as a friendly amendment. That's the core of the "Rocky Road to Dublin" playlist of shamrock punk on my iPod, along with generous helpings of Black 47, The Go Set & Siobhan. All of Siobhan's album "Welfare State" is incredible, hear bits at http://cdbaby.com/cd/siobhanmusic

But at the moment, I'm really stuck on Southwest-flavored alt-Country, so am listening mostly to Calexico, Iron & Wine, Paul Sprawl (track down "Santa in the Desert" on the album "Blue Suitcase" for some awe-inspiring darkness at http://www.paulsprawl.com/paulsprawl.html), Robert Earl Keen, Giant Sand and Howe Gelb http://howegelb.com/. The last is one I keep hitting the replay on over and over -- his song "Get to Leave" has a great line ending the chorus:

On this planet made of rock,
hard liquor and discomfort
with rumors of a better world
Once we get to Leave.

I'm enlisting the talents of other alt-Country/twang rock bands to try to lure the 13 year old away from the pop country pap she dearly loves -- bands like the Bottle Rockets (she already plays "1,000 Dollar Car" and "Radar Gun" enough that even I'm getting a little sick of them), Drive By Truckers, Old Crow Medicine Show, John Hiatt & Lyle Lovett have started to catch her attention.

And for some reason I just can't listen to Uncle Tupelo's "Moonshiner" lately without hitting replay at least two or three times...

Right at this moment, I'm listening to Slayer's Reign in Blood.  In my car I have my iPod hooked up through my head unit, so I just shuffle and let it go.  It repeats a song about once every 3 months.

In general, albums I'm liking when they come on:

Wu-Tang Clan, Enter the 36 Chambers
Motley Crue, Shout at the Devil
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, some greatest hits album
Flogging Molly, Swagger
The Distillers, Coral Fang

Pink Floyd - When the Tigers Broke Free

Great tune!  waytogo

I've always liked the movie's version of Mother better than the album's.

Great movie.

Mother Love Bone - Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns

Man I remember that one...  one of the stronger tunes on that album if I recall.  Seminal.

Soundgarden's BMF era was the shit.  Sucked to have to disown them afterward...

Been on a covers kick lately.

Peter Frampton - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Detroit Rock City; The horn section takes the guitar solo and they freakin' nail it to the wall.
Creed - Riders on the Storm; The first time I heard it I thought it was a remaster, until they got to the organ solo.
Faith No More - Warpigs
Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar
Cake - Mahna Mahna

Normally, i'd be listening to whatever they're playing on 16, The Vault or 24, Lithium. But right now I'm listening to Velvet Revolver's CD Contraband.
