Crap! I am seriously tempted to go fry a credit card...

Man, I wish the guy who initially responded to my craigslist wanted ad would get back to me with pics or contact info! He was looking for a lot less money.
It's suddenly been driving me nuts for some inexplicable reason... I really really really want the 2002+ aluminum swingarm for my SS.

what is the advantage of such a purchase and how does it compare to 2 trackdays?

1) It's 40% stiffer.
2) It looks a helluva lot better than the fugly rectangular-section tubing that makes up my current swingarm.
Number 2 normally wouldn't bug me, except that the 900SS has almost no straight lines. All of the bodywork is curved, sculpted, waisted. The swingarm clashes horribly.
Normally I'm not a "style" guy, I'm a function guy. But... my motorcycle is one area where I tend to throw pragmatism out the window and go with what feels right. This is also more of an industrial design thing, and the swingarm totally mucks up the bikes lines. The later swingarm fixes that. Yes, to permanently fix the aesthetics is worth two one-time track days. I just don't have the $500. I'd be happier if it was only the cost of one trackday (mostly because I can squeeze that out of my bank account... whereas $500 is a little rich). For some of you, the motorbike is merely a mode of transportation. Mine isn't. It's a toy, and a passion. Improvements to it are often less about function and more about form (though in some cases they will be both). If I wanted a motorcycle that "made sense" I'd be riding a Honda or BMW.

lol... I know. The ad gives me pause. Here was his response to my question about whether it was bare aluminum or clear coated, and if it was off a totaled bike:
Quote
Yes it is clear coated. The bike was not totaled, I bought it to get the frame for a special project I am working on. I am having a replica of the SS frome made out of titanium and I didn't want to strip down my bike so I bought this one so the frame maker would have have a something to work from. I am building the world's lightest SS1000, it is currently 342 lbs ready to ride in street trim, my goal is 320.
- fastfrank77
Anyway, I just needed to vent/share/whatever. I want it, but I can't justify $500 right now. If I was employed, I'd probably buy it. I really want the dude with one locally for under $300 to e-mail me back...

Dan, I feel the same way about the steel swingarm on my 800 Dark. Just kinda spoils the cool industrial look of a Monster, looks like an afterthought. I've seen some for sale for the Monster but I pass, I have a few reasons. 1) A couple of track days would make me a better rider but the bike would still be faster than I am as it is. 2) A Dark Monster should look a little crude and rough around the edges, I think. 3) My low pipes mostly hide it
On the other hand, for a 900SS, buy it, polish it, slap it in. That would look sexy!
Of course economy, finances, employment, I've been there. More will come along later.

Huh, don't see those everyday. Anyone know if Michael Czysz needs a spare Supermono swingarm?

Well, that eBay SS swingarm auction is ending. No bids, at at $500 I'm sure as heck not gonna. I messaged the guy yesterday and told him that if it doesn't sell and he really wants to get rid of it, to derby it with a starting bid of $300. Haven't heard back, so we'll see what happens.
Later yesterday (after messaging the eBay auctioner) I heard from the local guy who had responded to my first CL ad... he hasn't been able to get back to me for a very good reason that I won't divulge publicly, but he said he's going to try sending pics this week. We'll see how that goes. I'd obviously prefer to buy locally.
And now back to your regularly scheduled Craiglist postings...

Okay, getting away from that tangent...
Any of you blokes have a pair of stock Monster turn signals laying around? Want a few bucks cash-in-hand and a little less clutter in the garage? I'm looking for a pair of the oval ones to replace the rears on my SS, since it has the old-style rectangular ones on it now. I installed integrated mirrors a little while ago, getting rid of the front signals. Now I'd like to clean up the rear. I figure it's an inexpensive thing to whet my aesthetic modding appetite for the time being.

I think I still have mine. I can look when I get back this weekend.

I still have a few of these left. I've given some away in the past on here so I can't charge you but... if you buy that Pit Bull front stand from me for 70 bucks you can have all four or five stock blinkys that I have left.
You could even turn around a sell the stand for $100.00 I'll bet.

Oh crap! Thanks for reminding me Billy, I need to come buy that stand from ya. Not to resell it... I need it!
Shoot me a PM with your addy and a good time for me to swing by. I'm crashing at the parents' house for the time being, near Clackamas Town Center, and IIRC you're not too far north of here. I'm gonna be helping a friend with an oil change during the day tomorrow, but otherwise my schedule is free.
Oh yah, I only need two blinkys, just swapping the rears out. You'll have to see the new mirrors with integrated signals sometime, it really cleaned up the front of that SS.
