Check Engine LIght on new 696-
«

While out riding last night, my check engine light came on. My bike only has around 500miles on her and hasn't even been to her first service...So, I pulled over to shut it off for a few, when i restarted and pulled up to a stop sign the engine shut off. It started right back up with the light off - While riding home the light kept came back on and kept going on and off. It felt like it was running smoothly and sounded fine....
Ducati roadside is picking her up to bring her to the dealership today, im not happy
Anyone hear anything about problems with '09 696's?
Other advice?
Thanks!

I don't have a 696 but the exact same thing happened on my '08 S4RS. I was hovering right around 600 miles and I had intermitten check engine light sightings. The dealer said they couldn't do anything about it because when I took it in a week later for the 600 mile service it was fine.

Haven't heard of that issue with 696's, the dealer should be able to sort it out.

Doesn't sound like it's a big issue. Just make sure the dealer checks that the bike doesn't have the reversed wires on the coils. Most likely a connector came loose though. The fact that it would start right up and run fine leads me to think it's an electrical issue. I.E.: connector of some sort.

My 696 was doing the same after I hit 600 miles. At the 600 mile service the tech told me that there were some wires that were mismatched and needed to be switched. Apparently there was a service bulletin issued. This may be the cause, but your service tech will be able to fix for sure. Where do you ride? If not too far, wanna ride together?

Hmm, i hope they get everything figured out. The bike was picked up this afternoon and is currently at the shop so hopefully i will get her back sooner than later. As for riding, i live in Nj, all the way on the other coast

Am curious to know what your service tech says about your issue. Please update us. Didn't realize that you live only ~3000 miles away from me. I guess we'll never ride together. BTW, from what I can see through your helmet, I think you are cute. Ride safe.

Hey Petmonster
Keep an eye out for a light relay problem. Seems to be rare as there is not a bulletin but was verbally passed on to the techs here in SoCal last week. Happens around 600miles. Your lights go out, check engine light goes on, bike works fine otherwise.
Oh and if you use the little switch to change the info on the display, it will tell you what the check engine light means, at least it will try. You then check the manual. Should give you a really basic idea of what might be wrong.
Seen your pic on the other board, i'd say you're way more then just cute
