Track Day Prep for Monster
«
on:
September 10, 2008, 03:17:34 PM »
So next Friday (the 19th) I'm taking the Monster for it's first outing to the track. I'm not new to the track, but it will be the first time taking THIS bike there.
Aside from removing the mirrors and taping shit up what else does this bad boy need to be track ready?
1) Remove Mirrors
2) Tape Up Head lights/signals
3) Remove License plate
4) Remove a fuse or two??? *** Any pointers on this are greatly appreciated *** otherwise I'll look to either unplug the headlight or remove the bulb.
5) _______ fill in the blank ________
The bike is an 07 S4RS.
Thanks!

Just take off the whole headlight bucket. It's just two bolts to get it off and it's a pricey fix if you go down. It makes it harder to run numbers on the front of your bike, but who cares? Think about taking your seat cowl off too.
I always used to unplug the rear lights (it was one connector under the side cover on my monster) rather than pull a fuse, but a fuse works just as well. They're labeled in the fuse box.
Tape your key into the ignition (habit of mine).
Remove license plate? Don't bother.

only other things i can think of are just track stuff, not monster specific. tape up your wheel weights, snug up your oil plug and relevant bolts, tire pressure, etc.

Remove license plate? Don't bother.
Note: Some track day orgs require the removal of the license plate so that it doesn't become a flying decapitation device if it comes off at 150 mph.

For the sake of 4 bolts, take off your headlight and tail light. Besides I think the fuse for the lights also disconnects the ignition.
Take off as many body panels as you don't need.

You can run third eye bicycle mirrors. Cheap and effective.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the bar end mirrors, never have been. Unless I can jerry rig this onto my helmet somehow:

Yup very nice, but I'm not spending $120 for ONE mirror. I'm just not, it's not even a money issue, just on principle I won't do it.
