That announces your companies SoCal division awards dinner in November that conflicts with a weekend and monday you requested off in June for a trackday.
Now this other division is home to the CEO who already thinks your position is not needed.
What do you do?

Does the CEO know who you are? You have pre-existing, non-refundable, non-transferable plans already. If they want to compensate you for the lost track costs, then you might want to go.
Oh, wait! You have that optometrist's appointment... You have anal glaucoma. You

going to the company's hoo-ha-thingie.

Reschedule your trackday for another (warmer) day.
Unless it is at Laguna, in which case I'd tell them to make the beast with two backs off.

If you think that they might dump your butt over you not attending some corporate pep rally, then I'm guessing you should probably be looking for a new job anyways.... and still go to your trackday.

IMHO, Hobbies don't pay the bills. You got to bring home the
in order to see another track day.

<Dr. Phil>
Just get it over with. Go to the banquet, screw the CEO's wife, take a dump in his desk and then go to your trackday on Monday.
</Dr. Phil>
P.S. I don't think my Dr. Phil impression is very good. Hmmmmmm. . .

Play the game. Reschedule your track day. Go to the company dinner, show your face, be a team player, save your job.
On the other hand, some people make week long pre-paid vacation plans (think time shares and cruises) well in advance. I'm sure someone will have a conflict. It's unrealistic to think everyone employee can make it to a company function. Your job is at risk anyway. Nobody is indispensible.
Good luck in making the decision.

I Made some sort of excuse for the last two company shin digs. The one in February always conflicts with the San Francisco Supercross. Maybe they wont conflict this time.
I used the "My mother has cancer" to get out of the latest one.
It was true.
Just wiggle your way out. On the other hand they might be handing out some cool coffee mugs and if you dont go you wont have one. (tell a co worker to get an extra one)
What to do what to do.....
What ever you do, Just don't lie. You can still beg off if you want.

My 2 cents... I'd go because:
1) it's an Awards Dinner, not a social gathering, i.e. the company Christmas Party
2) the Who's Who of the Co. leadership will most likely be there
3) most likely your other team members / colleagues will be there
4) it's more a "work" function than the silly Christmas parties which tend to be more social (you can always say you don't do Chrstmases due to religious reasons...)
5) go schmooze with the leadership and flash some of that awesome charisma so that they won't let you go...at least you know that you tried...

I'd only go do that if you can make a plan for it to be meaningful to you. If you can do some shmoozing that might turn into something. Make an appointment to show/talk about your work/ move you into bigger things.
If you're going to be in the back row never allowed to get near anyone to have a conversation/
If they'll never know you're there or not - why bother?

take out a contract on the ceo, and attend the track day so you have an alibi. win-win

Just an update, I spoke with one of my bosses, asking his opinion.
He said he missed the brunch the day after the awards dinner once and got flack for years about it.
The event is a culmination and celebration of the hard work everyone puts in and if anyone chooses not to come then they obviously don't care as much as everyone else. Also as we grow they are thinking of reducing the amount of people invited to such events. Since I'm hoping to make the jump in title this year I better put in some more face time.
Oh well, anyone want a VIP ticket for a Keigwins day in November?
