I beg to differ.

Leaving from the infield, you had no choice but to take a left onto 16th.

Then all of the cross streets were blocked-off for a couple of miles, keeping you from turning to double back.

With no signage to give any indication of how to get back to the west, it took forever winding through side streets to get back to my hotel.

I agree, leaving got me completely screwed up.  If I would have just waited inside the track for 60 minutes, I could have got back to my campground much much easier.

Evil

Yeah - what is it with that track's layout?  OK, I wasn't there and have only seen the diagrams but it looks unimaginatively tyro.....
 Evil Evil

Hmmm....schedule a race during hurricane season and then wonder why it rained....

You must not know Indy or the Midwest very well.  The layout is what it is, there is limited space due to it being INSIDE the oval.

And typically, we do not get affected by hurricanes, we are 1500+ miles away from Ocean.  If no rain is a requirement for a booking date, you would have to pick February, that is probably the only month it doesn't rain around here.

Overall, I had a great time.  Mario did a great job with the Project Mugello and HH crowd.  Ducati did a A+ job on the DOC area.  Tent camping next to the track was a fricking riot, and totally made up for riding ~20 hours in rain and wind over the weekend.  I plan to go back next year, and meet up with the guys we camped next to.

Being that the speedway is located in a neighborhood and typically accommodates crowds up to 450,000 people, they have their routes down pretty good.

you have to understand all of the parking lots drain towards a different exit.

You either go towards 465 on the West, 65 to the East (via 16th street and 30th street exits), or towards 38th on the north via Georgetown Road.

They clothes all N-S bound streets on 16th street to prevent people from clogging up neighborhood roads and screwing up with the general flow of traffic from the surrounding lots.

The best way to leave the Speedway..............wait around. Don't leave quickly. Hang out and then leave.

We left about 2 hours after the GP Race and sat in no traffic.

Well thanks for warning me, Pakhan and I rode around like maniacs to get back to the shitty motel. The motel was only about a mile and a half away and it took 25 miles to get there. Every road that his GPS suggested was blocked off in just about every case.  bang head

1) learn which parking lot empties to the direction you need to go and park there

or...

2) wait for traffic to empty and travel whichever way you want.

My brother-in-law and I took a lap on the track Monday morning - me on my Monster and he on a Road King.  Does anyone know, IMS staff were taking pictures of us, are those for sale anywhere?

Try the Speedway website

I looked there first, but didn't see it.

 Undecided

It could have been for security reasons / liability also, instead of souviner.
