What determins how loud your clutch is? Sorry for the noob question.
Two main things will determine clutch noisiness: Clutch basket and friction plates.
If you have a steel basket, with steel backed friction plates, and an open cover, then the racket will be insane! :bang The old sockets in a washing machine saying.
If you run a steel basket with alloy backed plates it will be less. And an alloy basket with alloy plates will be even quieter. wt:
The alloy is a softer metal, so it will have a softer "rattle" to it.
Now depending on the type of cover you're running, that will also have an effect on the level of noise. Open covers will always make for a louder clutch.
Always try to avoid running steel plates in an alloy basket. the tabs on the plates will start to mash grooves in the basket edges, and this can cause erratic clutch operation, and hard shifting.
Hope this helps.
