I went down this morning, exiting richmond parkway.
A guy took my rear wheel off while he exit the 80.
Bike is ruined. All my gear is dead.

I got very lucky as I got only my right wrist broken.
Safety gear does save life!

I know i should be glad and thankfull being alive but, seriously it sucks...
Not mentionning the discussion I am gonna have with my wife about riding again... Undecided

I feel for you.  Hopefully you have good moto insurance.  Lucky you to only have a broken wrist.  Get well soon.  Good luck with the wife discussion.

Yikes!!!!  So good to hear that you made it through somewhat ok.  Thank god for the gear.  Bikes are replaceable.

How the make the beast with two backs did he take out your rear?!?  I hope the guy stopped and was insured.  Didja get a police report?  Give a holler if you need a recommendation for a personal injury attorney.

I wouldn't have the conversation with the wife now.  Tell her to wait a week or two to talk about it.

Yikes...gravity seems to be extra strong lately.  Glad you're OK.  That's a bad, bad place to eat it.  Your life and your wife's concerns are what's really important right now.  Be happy to have the former and be fair with her about the latter--not riding isn't the end of the world and it can wait if it has to.  Smiley   Heal up quickly.   [moto]

The guy stopped. He didn't run away. he was actually the first one to ask me how I was doing. Not a bad guy. He admitted his fault, even to the cHP cop.
Thing is, my inurrance will reimburse only up to 1000$ for the gear... Man, it'll cost me more than $3000 to replace everything... A now, i will definetly get only top qualty protections (as I had).
And they won't reimburse my bike "as new" so I am screwed!

What the thing with they attorney? what am i suppose to do? is the insurrance not supposed to take care of everything?
Any advices is welcome as I just don't know how things work... it's my first crash... Huh?

Another Richmond park way and another broken wrist, sorry to hear about that, hope you will get well soon
The bike must be big damage, bike can fix or total loss for new one, important one is you walk away from it.

September 5 the day after of our nine years anniversary  , on the way pilot to work unfortunely hit the rock was kicked out from school  bus  at richmond park way by Gerrude st , high side and come down very hard only broken wrist and body sore for a week.
The wrist is 95 % improve better, hopefully on the bike soon, may be I can ride to La  Ducati.
Insurance took care very fast , now my new sport  classic 1000 is on the way ship out from Ducati Manhattan.

Your wife will understands

Take care and feel well soon.

I assume the cager had insurance?  Normally, your insurance will pay you for the property you lost--bike and gear--and then go after the cager's insurance.  Once they recover from the cager's insurance, they should refund your deductible.   If your insurance does not pay for everything, it's your responsibility to go after the cager's insurance for what's left over.

DAMAGES

Property damage (gear, bike, etc.)-->  You're right that you will not get "as new" value for the bike.  You'll get fair market value.  You can argue with the insurance adjuster about what fair market value is.  If your insurance doesn't cover everything, you can talk with the cager's insurance adjuster and submit receipts for whatever your insurance doesn't cover.  The cager's insurance *should* pay.  Be aware that if you're not a lawyer, they may very well try to screw you.

Medical bills -->  You'll have to talk to the cager's insurance about any out-of-pocket medical bills you have (like co-pays).  Your bike insurance won't deal with this.  Your medical insurer will ask for the cager's insurance information so that your medical provider can go after the cager's insurance for the rest.

Lost wages/pain/ suffering, etc.  -->  This is your responsibiliy, not your insurance.   You can either ask the cager's insurance for a certain $ amount and negotiate directly with them or you can hire a lawyer.  A lawyer will take their costs plus 1/3.  I bet that a lawyer would tell ya that just the wrist injury--excluding medical bills, wage loss, and all property damage-- consisting of a non-displaced fracture of a right wrist (dominant hand) with 4 weeks of cast and no residuals is probably worth $5-10K.  $10k may be too high.

What to do depends on how badly you are hurt, what your financial situation is like and whether you're going miss work or not.   If you have good medical, won't miss work and don't like the idea of suing, just have your insurance pay and then try to get some $ from his insurance on your own.  If you're out-of-pocket on a lot of this stuff and are going to lose a buncha $ if you don't do something, talk to a lawyer.  A lot of what to do depends on what the cager's insurance liability limits are.  You may be able to find out that information from your insurance, if you don't already have the info.  What kind of car was he driving?  I would start by calling your bike insurance, tell them about the accident, and ask them what they will cover and where to go from here.   BTW, please don't take any of this as legal advice.  It's not.  I'm just telling ya the way the insurance stuff works and telling ya to call your insurer.

Sorry to hear about the crash, but glad to hear that you're alright.

As others have said, the bike can be replaced.  If there are scratches on the tank, frame, etc, it will all end up being replaced ... so they may still total the bike out.  It doesn't take much.

That sucks, get well soon.  Glad it wasn't worse.

Must be something in the air.... I had a close call this morning myself.  On route 24, in lane 3 with no traffic directly next to me on either side, a Mercedes wagon merged into lane 4 from an on-ramp and then promptly merged right into me in lane 3.

Luckily I saw him in time, and moved over.... it was close though, as there was a SUV that pulled up directly to the left of me as I slowed down and moved left, so I basically had to thread the needle at 65 mph for a moment in order to not make contact with either the SUV or the Mercedes.

I pulled it and didn't make contact, then pulled up to the Mercedes wagon driver, got his attention with the horn and gave him the international symbol for "what the hell are you doing?", and he made the international symbol for "what can I say, I'm sorry".

How hard is it to turn your head for a split second before changing lanes?  So stupid....
