You're essentially correct.
Especially if it's been drilled into everyone's head in the classroom.
A) I'm a former MX racer, and in the dirt you're never sure where anybody's going to be.
B) My only trackday riding has been on Streets of Willow, and pit out enters the track from the left, just before a high-speed right sweeper.
So you're merging directly into the hot line.
Not a smart track layout.
