so my dog mufasa is my baby. he's 10 1/2 yrs old & i've had him since he was 6 weeks old. im so bonded with him it's ridiculous! he's always had random medical issues..they've usually been fairly minor..like bad hips..prone to ear infections..has sensitive skin..etc., etc..

so about 6 months ago he started to get a growth on his eyelid, it looked like a skin tag, i took him to the vet, & was told not to worry about it.. but it kept getting bigger...

so, a couple of weeks ago, fasa stopped eating..it happened to be on a weekend so i took him to an er vet..they prescribed antibiotics & he got better within a day... i liked this vet, so i switched fasa over to him.. he also told me the growth wasnt a big deal..

like 2 weeks ago fasa scratched the growth & it wouldnt stop bleeding. took him back to the vet, they said they could surgically remove it, but they would need to run blood tests first to make sure he would be ok for the surgery.. the blood tests came back that his protein was pretty high & he was slightly anemic..but they were able to do the surgery..

they did the surgery on tuesday, i was supposed to get him at 6pm tuesday night, but fasa wasn't coming out of the anesthesia the way he should, so they kept him overnight. i picked him up wednesday morning & had to carry all 80lbs of him to the car. he wouldnt walk on his own. he was still pretty out of it.. during the day wed, he still wouldnt eat, but he would drink water, but he wouldnt get up & he ended up urinating on himself & the floor :( wednesday evening (yesterday) i took him back to the vet. & he urinated all over the place again as i was carrying him in :( they ended up keeping him overnight again, he's still there... theyve done all sorts of xrays & lab tests & havent found anything. they sent the growth off to be biopsied but we dont have results yet.. the high proteins in the blood & the anemia point to either cancer or some sort of tick related disease..

so now, later this afternoon, i have to take him to a specialist so they can do a bone marrow aspiration to see if that will provide some more insight..the scary thing about that is they are going to have to sedate him..

i just want him to be better :(

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

It was great meeting "The Dude" at long last.   She brought us some epic beer.

thanks everyone :) ...the specialist was like going to a university hospital for people..the facility is huge and they have all this state of the art equipment, so im hopeful they'll figure this out..they're keeping him for atleast 2 days & they are running all sorts of tests..so far they still dont really know what's going on..they had talked about a blood transfusion because the anemia was pretty bad, but they retested him & they dont think the transfusion is still necessary...tomorrow morning he's having an mri ...in addition to the possible cancer and the possible tick disease its also possible he could have had a stroke...whatever it is i just need it to be fixable

Good luck Elyse...as Stellepic said it could have been a bad reaction to anesthesia and a whopper of a hangover from it...

my best thoughts and hopes are with you and your baby

so i got the greatest birthday present today that i could have asked for! the vet just called & said fasa is doing a little bit better. he wagged his tail & he, in her words, "gobbled up some canned food".. i cant even begin to explain how happy this makes me! he hasn't eaten anything since last monday & they were talking about inserting a feeding tube :( .. but now that shouldnt be needed :) :)..next thing is they have to try & get him mobile..so keep the prayers & positive thoughts coming please because they are working!!! <3 <3 <3
