That's a shame about homeowner's insurance and certain breads.

I never really checked with mine when I got the Doberman and probably won't now for obvious reasons. I think it is really stupid. Spend two minutes around Greta and that whole "doberman's are viscious" stereotype will go right out the window. I am sure that is the same for those of you with Am Staff's, rotts, etc.

They should ban the owners; not the dogs.

I found my way over here yesterday.  My first post will be of my big kid, Hunter.  He is a 4 1/2 year old Alaskan Malamute.

Damnit. Sad  I thought it might be, but the non-clipped ears always throw me off.  I dated a girl who had 5 rescues between herself (2) and her family.  I really love em and know a fair amount about the breed.  I'd love to rescue one, but mags is a bit scared of them.  It's not pits specifically, she was attacked by a medium-large dog as a child so she's still a little shy. We've just gotten approval from the landlord to have a dog but pits are regrettably (and unfortunately, around here, expectedly Angry) not allowed.  It might be for the best as we're in an apartment and I'd really rather have a house & at least a dog run for a breed that energetic.  Then again, it appears when we do have the house that some places won't give us home owners insurance with a pit. Your pups are beautiful, have you had any problems with insurance/etc?  I wonder if it gets past kneejerk reactions of landlords/insurers if you refer to it as a Staffie/Am. Staff?  I'd like to be able to help the breed, one day...  Cry

You have absolutely no idea the amount of predjudice and discrimination there is with these "types" of dogs. I cannot even change my homweowners insurenace because ALL insurance companies except one (State Farm) blacklists these and MANY other breeds. Cities all across the country have BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) against these dogs. It is a terrible shame as there are soooooooo many in the shelters and 99% of them are as sweet as pie. Like mine. My wife was afraid of rescuing Jake (American Bulldog) from the shelter. But I asked her to just come by the shelter after work for 20 mins or so a day (second time was a charm!) and see him after he calms down a bit (they are hyper, especially when they've been in the shelter for 2 months!). Well a long story short, they are inseparable now!  waytogo These dogs are more of a "people" dog than a "dog" dog. They do not do well with just being put in the backyard and fed. They NEED interaction and are EXTREMELY high energy. Not to mention brickshithouse strong! But we love em... His pic is in this thread under my moniker "hypurone".

I'm confused, you quoted my post about Pits and looking back at pics of Jake he appears to be a Pit but your post labels him an American Bulldog? Huh?

Looks like a cross between an American Bulldog and a Pitbull to me.  A little too big/thick for a Pit or Staffie, but the face isn't scrunched up enough to be a full Amer. Bulldog.

Awesome looking dog hypurone.  waytogo
