This is Tony , my soon to be 8 year old Basset  Hound . Tony is a reincarnation of Tony a male Basset that came before him but sadly had to be put to sleep from Cancer at the young age of 10.

I got this Tony when he was 6 weeks old , about 3 months after my Father died . I needed to try and fill the hole in my heart and Tony sure helped.

He is a house Dog with a big area to roam in out in the rear of the property.

After he got past the stage of chewing on anything made of wood , be it an inexpensive chair or a Heirloom piece of Antique Furniture , he has been just wonderful.

He loves everybody and asks only for your love in return ....and a bite of your sandwich.

Cute pup.  Those are some sweet Luccheses too.  I'm from NY were people think I'm crazy for wearing them, then I kick them in the face and tell the to F off.

Not sure what is going on here. I don't remember if Greta drooled on Jud or he drooled on himself.

This is Blossom, my boss's dog. She's 10 years old (as of yesterday). You may have seen me post pics of her before - she almost feels like my dog, I've known here all her life and see her at work 5 days a week.

There's bad news though.

She's just been diagnosed with bone cancer in her front right leg which the xrays show might be spreading to her chest...   Sad

The vets advice is that while there are chemo and radio therapy treatments available, she's never seen them work on bone growths for large old dogs. She suggests trying to control the pain with drugs or amputating the leg (with the clearly unspoken alternative of putting her out of her misery). The drugs that seem to work, as in she's happy enough even though she's hopping and limping around, are apparently quite bad for her if taken long term. The boss cant stand the idea of amputation, Blossom is a big dog - around 36kg (almost 80lb) - and lives in a house with polished wooden floors and long staircases. (And my boss, being a  wheelchair-bound quadriplegic, possibly has a different view on that sort of disability to the rest of us...) The boss seems to have chosen to keep the dosage of pain killers up until they run out, spend the next week or so giving her all the hugs and treats she can have, then saying goodbye.

Man this sucks. make the beast with two backs I'm glad I don't have to make this call.

 Embarrassed

Hard decision but he's making the right one.  Why prolong the pain.  Undecided  10 years is a good, long life for a Rot.

Just make this be the best week ever with her!!

Dog's do well with only 3 legs. That would be my choice.

She has had a good long life, though.

Sorry to hear that about Blossom.  Cry

Sounds like the right choice though. Dogs do well with only 3 legs, but she's 10 and that's a tough surgery for an old dog. I wouldn't put my dog through that pain either...especially since the cancer may be in her chest as well.

What a bummer.  Cry
