Same ole DesmoDevil, in a more gentle package

« on: October 21, 2008, 06:27:03 AM »

So I was reading the headlines on cnn today about people building survival bunkers, hoarding food, cashing all the money for gold.

Granted, I am avoiding buying major things right now (100k miles on the truck!) and have a small "oh shit" fund, but hoarding food?  Cashing out all your money for gold?   And these aren't just a few right wing crazies...they are every day Joes and Jills.

One guy bought 10,000 rounds of ammunition!

Should we building a Ducati Survival Commune down near Roswell?  Bunkers, food, water filtration, private racing track.

Discuss..  thoughts?   Are you guys feeling we are headed for financial collapse and third world economy status as they say in the article?

If the world really is going to end... I dont think I want to have to go all the way down to Roswell just to use the track... I'd much rather have a track a little more local.. I can understand keeping it away from Kirtland and the Labs...  Those would be good alleged terrorist hotspots, and we dont want any shrapnel or anything else damaging the racing surface.   As far as hoarding food.. I guess I'm not a Joe.. I have no hoarded food other than whats been stuck in the back of my pantry and forgotten about.  Maybe we should hoard tires and gasoline... at the track?   bacon

Well CNN is about as real as USA Today, People magazine, AOL or Fox news. S E N S A T I O N A L I S M! Sells stories.

BTW I have a WW ll submarine I bought at the surplus auction and had it buried in my back yard with enough supplies for 40 years so you wont catch me falling for the media sensationalism.
While we were in Ouray I sat in my room being depressed watching the History channel have a top ten worst case world disaster scenarios on TV. So wheres the irony when everybody is out having a good time you can make the choice to focus on this crap or go out and RIDE!

I have a serious question:

Is it possible to store enough booze for all of us? Huh?

I really think its going to depend on the amount of time that we'd have to go into hiding.. if its just a week? yeah sure.. we can just rob a liquor store.. anything much over that and were gonna need a warehouse..

This is where I come in!

If the world gets that bad... I'll come down and hide out with you guys.  I'll earn my keep by making beer!

I don't know about it having to be in Munich...   Grin

But you are right... it is time for an effing career change.  Instead of hastening along the destruction of the world by blowing shit up for the navy, I ought to sell beer and slow it down by ensuring everyone is drunk!
