I just passed up the deal of the century

For all those who are wondering, that deal came and went. the person I knew was selling her S4R. I offered to swap our my adjustable forks for her ohlins plus cash. Someone was coming by last week to pick it up..

Chance lost! I dont think i'll ever come across that one again..

We figured as much.  No reason to miss a chance to bust your balls tho......

That guy will probably get his $30K asking price, but anyone who spends that much money to ride the bike is wasting their money...

Depends on your priorities. "Crate" bikes are special.  My "81" is going on it's first road trip next weekend. 2700 miles, found in crate and assembled in 1999.



Of course I paid a heck of a lot less than $30K for it.

I feel for all of you.  Believe it or not, there are good supportive women out there who will actually help feed our moto addiction.  Mine was the first to chime in that I SHOULD buy the Monster Tricolore.  Now that it seems the 50mm Termi system with the DP ECU is the best way to make it run to its proper potential, again she's the one in my corner telling me to go for it.  It only took me two marriages down the crapper to find the best woman in the world, but it was worth every penny and house lost. 

This is true, there are a few good ones out there.  I was recently in the market to get another bike and brought my wife with me to a few of the dealerships to look at things.  Well, we ended up in the local Triumph showroom looking at a Daytona.  The sales guys were really cool and laid back, no pressure at all, and we took our time (I had been in there several times before as well).  When it finally came time to start heading out, the wife says "that bike looks really nice, much better than it did in the pictures.  I think you should get it."  Well, I am sure you can guess my next course of action.  Funny thing is, I told her later that day that I had brought her there with me to act as the voice of restraint, but that she had failed miserably at that and I loved her for it.

The only trouble is, when she sees some Kate Spade handbag big enough to hold a pack of smokes and a house key, as long as you take it off the ring, on "Sale" for $895, or some vintage Manolo Blahnik things that have about $3 worth of material in them for $2700, what are ya gonna say?

I play both moderation and motivation.  I have the heart for motos and everything related, since I share his addiction.  However, there are times when moderation is the way to go.  There are other times that the nudge to spend money is the way to go.  It all depends on the item and the money situation. 

My take on it is that if her thoughts are that "it's going to be a house someday" then there should be contributions from both sides to a dedicated savings plan for this mythical house.  Not spending the $1k on the forks and then having her buy lunch at work every day for the year while you bring sandwiches (I am just throwing this out as an example) is an unfair expectation.  If she is trying to motivate you to save for a house, work out a plan and set up a dedicated account for it.  If you're just blindly saving for something, you won't save nearly as quickly as if you have a plan.

If I showed my wife a list of all the expenses, she would tell me to sell the bike.  I wouldn't, so in my case I keep it to myself.

Nah, I'm lucky in the fact that my wife hates shopping.    Besides, the only big ticket item she seems to want is a monster of her own some day.  All I have to do is get her licensed.

So effective immediately, a new rule has been implemented in the home

All maintenance related items (oil changes, valve adjustments, timing belts, chain tensioning,chain lube, throttle syncing, etc) will be logged by me in a book. All associated labor hours will be tallied up credited to me at the GOING shop rate ($80/hr, 15 minute minimum) for future purchases.

This money can then be used for any mods I choose at any time.

I tried using this method to parlay the 6k service into a Leo Vince 2into1 and got the negatory from the General.

I just buy what I want and if she protests I tell her to get the hell over it. Pretty simple really. I won't tolerate that shit.
With that said, my financial conscience is pretty strict as it is and I end up letting great deals pass me by anyway.
