my SBK insurance just went up 500%
«
on:
October 28, 2008, 08:06:30 PM »
Last year I was stoked to learn that I could get full coverage on my '04 749s for peanuts.
Fast-forward to policy renewal time and Geico jacked my rate up 500%. No tickets, no claims, no changes. I'm squeaky clean.
I called them up and apparently my bike was recently reclassified into a "sportier" category, hence the increase.
Is this typical? A good chunk of my mod and track money just potentially evaporated!
I think it's time to shop around, so if anyone has a recommendation I'm all ears.

Just try every one that you consider reputable. You will almost certainly find a better price. Sorry for the hassle, and good luck.

Leave Geico, they are the most expensive and their customer service sucks

Although I'm sure that it's probably legal, it just ain't right.
Kick those jerks to the curb. After a lot of comparing of prices when I first started riding I ended up going with State Farm. I've had to file a claim with them, too, and they were very good about the situtation--very timely and fair. They didn't ask a lot of questions, signed the check and sent me on my merry way in a week or so after the accident. They only charge by the CC's--at least that's what I was told. They have my husband's bike accidentally listed as a 90 cc instead of a 900 cc so we save a little money there, too!
I even told my agent about it, and she just told me not to worry about it. She said that it doesn't really matter anyway.

I got a few more quotes and it turns out that the Geico rate is competitive for the same coverage. Some quotes were lower for bike #1 vs. bike #2, but the total came out about the same. I was never able to connect with Daniel and my calls were not returned. I'll keep shopping around and give more consideration to what I actually need, but at this point it is what it is!

I went thru a broker and ended up with American Modern Ins by Carnegie. It is HALF of what Progressive was going to raise my rate to!

I have used a broker in the past and saved large amounts of cash that way currently i have country insurance which is strictly based off of displacement as far as i know.

Hey BK! Great to hear from you although not really positive news re: the hike in insurance rate on your beautiful new bike... that is really terrible! Thanks for posting this info up. It is good to keep in mind... guess I should definitely ignore the temptation to get that Aprilia Mille that a friend has been bugging me about...

Aprilia Mille...yummy.
Yeah, watch out for the "low introductory teaser rates" and "balloon policies"
I took the 749s out on Sunday for a good romp in the hills...everything is back in perspective...it's totally worth it.

I would also suggest you get a quote from State Farm. They base their rates strictly on displacement, not class of motorcycle. So when I was considering switching from my old SV650 to a GSX-R 600, my rates would have gone down! And your 749 will be less than my SportClassic S1000. Guess it must really suck to insure a big Harley .

Hi, were you at Pt Reyes today on your bike? A bunch of us were eating at the Pine Cone Diner having brunch/lunch...

I wish it was me, but I spent the weekend in crutches because of a painful flare up of my knee (still giving me trouble from a crash of a couple of years ago).
