All this does leave me wondering if there's really a place for the 4V monsters. I could very well see the Monster becoming a 2V only bike, and this streetfighter providing the 4V naked bike option.

Nothing like predicting the present.  The monster is only 2V now and the streetfighter provides the 4V naked option.

Teaser vid for the streetfighter up on Ducati.com...  pretty sick bike.

Looks are MUCH better than the **new** Monster styling, IMO.

Mea culpa. I have not been paying attention to the press releases.

So the S4R and S4Rs are History now  Undecided

On the Ducati home page they only have the 696 and 1100 listed.

Everything's back to normal, then... Il mostro was supposed to be and only be a huge 2v engine bike. Period.
Nothing against S4R and other it just didn't fit to the initial concept IMHO...

That said... I want a Streetfighter... AND a S2R1000...

I was referring to more about the look. I think of Ducati's as being classic looking but still Modern. They are all starting to look like Japanese sports bikes. I have nothing against japanese sports bikes. Actually I like many of them out there however I liked the fact I had another option with Ducati for something that looked different and sounded different etc.

True, Rob. bow down

But I don't know... This time, I think they did something great with the SF. I like it. I still prefer the 998/996 over the 1098, or the "classic" monster over the new one, but here... They did something special...
Maybe I like it really much it's a NEW bike not a new version of an existing one...

The Streetfighter definitely looks meaner than the Monster, even with the bugs bunny mirrors.

I also prefer a 2V air cooled bike for the street, but I'd lean towards the Streetfighter if given the choice.  It's not nearly as contrived as the new Monster.
