<trying to be non-partisan>

Get out there and vote, y'all.   waytogo

Even if the presidential race is decided early, your vote iin CA is critical.  Prop. 8 (same sex marriage) is on the ballot as is Prop. 4 (parental notification for teen abortions).   Your vote should be heard.  Don't sit silent and let others make the decision for you.  Remember, these are statewide initiatives, so even if everyone around you agrees one way or another, folks from other parts of the state may be voting differently.  Every vote counts.

Don't give up just cuz the lines are long or cuz you think it doesn't matter.  It really, really does.   waytogo

My polling place opened at 7am and I got there at 6:50.  There was already a line halfway down the block.  It was an hour-long wait.  Undecided  I had to leave my helmet on the bike since it has a buncha political stickers on it.

Voted absentee the day it came in the mail waytogo

Spidey, sorry to hear about the SNAFU at your precinct. I walked down past my local precinct this morning, and there seemed to be no line. I've monitored that precinct for campaigns in past elections, and it's always run smoothly.

It's a damn shame that in 2008 we still disenfranchise people by having only one day to vote (in many states, anyway) and inadequate voting equipment. Rachel Maddow calls the long lines a new form of poll tax, and I'm inclined to agree with her. This is one issue where there should be consensus...people everywhere should have no problems voting.

Ours opened at 8. Sux about the line though. I hope stuff like that does not discourage people from voicing their opinion.

I don't think it was a snafu.  It's just Noe.  All the yuppies (myself included) vote early on the way to work rather than late in the day.  And all the moms were there with strollers cuz their kids get up early.  It was kinda neighborly feelin'.  The kids all wanted to sit on the bike.   Grin    When I've gone later in the day for other elections (albeit with lower turnout than this one), it's been a breeze.

If I can get my two motions out by before the end of the day (I hate having deadlines on election day) and ditch work, I'm gonna go get people to the polls.  A buncha my colleagues flew to other states to as lawyer/monitors.

I hope that's the case. In other states (Virginia), there are reports of long lines, malfunctioning voting equipment, and high numbers of voter challenges by political operatives.

Voted.  I waited longer than I've ever waited before, and was happy to do it.  It's good to see crowds at the polls.  waytogo

After birthing class ( Roll Eyes), I'm gonna watch some results with a coupla Republican friends (they all huddle together for spiritual warmth each election day) and then swing by the Castro.  As the Blonde said, it'll "either crazy tense b/c it's too close, wild partying because prop 8 goes down, or mad grooms sodomizing in the streets and burning wall street journals if 8 wins."  No matter what, it'll be a spectacle.    Evil   Grin
