What a load of shit.

They are saying it's the track's fault.

The problem: monopolies, tire and publishing rights.
Why? Dorna Sports, S.L. who has licensed MotoGP for the next 3 years and sucks ass.

...soooo... why weren't all the OTHER bikes having this problem on the track that day?  Roll Eyes

They also said it was due to the rider's style of riding.  So that means Spies rides like Rossi?   popcorn

And where does Capirossi figure in all of this since he's supposed to be the QC man?

all capi can do is make sure nobody is playing favorites w/ the tire selection/allocation... he isn't responsible for making sure that every tire coming from the factory is defect-free. that's bridgestone's job.

Case in point for letting the teams and manufacturers have free reign in tire selection again. IMO.

"letting the teams and manufacturers have free reign" is no guarantee that a production oopsie isn't going to make it into the race.

furthermore, one manufacturer not "bringing it" during a time of full-on tire war is (one of) the reason(s) they went to a control tire to begin with.

now, as the series is trying to contain costs, is not the time to go back to a tire selection free-for-all... if the money ever starts flowing free like it did in the late-90s and early-00s, go for it.

Boy I feel old.  Last F1 race I took the family was 05 Indianapolis.  That was the year all Michelin cars pulled into the pits and called it quits right after the warm up lap on the day of the race.  That left Shumacher, Barrichello,  and two other souls all on Bridgestones to race the Grand Prix in front of a very angry group of spectators.  I'm still angry.

If there had been only one supplier, Michelin, NOBODY would have raced at the track that day.  Bridgesone kinda saved the day.  How times change.

I understand the concept of trying to contain costs but I weep for the current state of things. High end racing should never be constrained by cost control. If it comes to that then it should simply be called quits and shift down to more selective class racing. Racing is racing and it can all be good but the true allure of the big race is the cost be damned run what you brung.

if there had been only one supplier, the entire field would've run the race, likely with a modified course.

michelin had requested their teams be allowed to swap tires after qualifying (this wasn't allowed by the rules) and/or put a chicane prior to turn 13 to slow the cars down.

why should formula one have made an exception to the rules or track layout when michelin's competitor (bridgestone) brought tires that worked?
