whitham weighs in...

http://www.crash.net/World+Superbikes/News/144425/1/whitham_ben_spies_is_the_real_deal.html

“I hate to say it, but he is that good - he is the real deal,” he told Crash.net. “Not only is he quick, which we already knew he would be, but he learns circuits within about ten seconds of arriving at them! It would appear that he knows how to set a bike up too. Very few have all that you need to succeed at that level, and he appears to have it all.

The "it's the bike" morons seem to forget that he was rippin' it up on Haga's '08 bike in testing.

Considering there is at least one WSBK champion in the AMA paddock, of course AMA guys can compete.

they aren't quite ready to just concede that he's that good.  an AMA guy can't be that good?!  must be a ducati GP engine in that R1!

...no, he was getting motored.  and then he was out-braking the veterans a few seconds later.   Evil

he finished the 1st race, just not in a points position because of the second time getting run off the track by Xaus on the Beemer.

Points have alot to do with DNF's, no finish-no points and hence why Nitro is sitting pretty right now in points standing (granted it IS early on)...

I would'nt read to much into what the press say, sensationalising on what European press write and playing Spies as the underdog only sells newspapers and magazines in the US.
